Hey guys, found a great article and discussion going on at www.uncommondescent.com about the probability of evolution being true. Enjoy!
“[Darwinism] seems to require many thousands, perhaps millions, of successive mutations to produce even the easiest complexity we see in life now. It appears, naively at least, that no matter how large the probability of a single mutation is, should it be even as great as one-half, you would get this probability raised to a millionth power, which is so very close to zero that the chances of such a chain seem to be practically non-existent.”

Hi! Evolution is none the less true… It is clearly the way God chose to make a creating universe. There are many pieces of evidence which now put evolution beyond doubt, but Francis Collins has illustrated some of these. One irrefutable piece is that our nearest relatives (chimps and gorillas) have one extra pair of chromosomes (ie 24 pairs) and the genome project discovered that the sequence letters (GATC) over the centromere of our chromosome 2 match exactly the sequence of letters at the ends of chimp and gorilla chromosomes 2 & 3. Now there are only two possible explanations for this…. we share a common ancestor with these animals OR God created humans this way to deceive us into thinking we were related to chimps and gorillas. Now christians are faced with a choice - we can either believe evolution is the way God did it OR we can choose to believe in a deceiving god and become the laughing stock of all thinking people. I know the character of God and know he does not deceive. So Christians (particularly in the USA) get with God and understand that he brought life to earth through creative evolution.

Don’t agree. Why does it have to be that we have a common ancestor? Couldn’t God just be using the same pieces of DNA to create? Doesn’t God’s Word say that “from dust you were created, and to dust you shall return” (Gen 3:19)? It doesn’t say “from apes you were created”!
If God created the universe out of nothing, why would He have a problem creating people from nothing?
I think it’s more likely that we don’t, and probably never will, fully understand the creation event. But we have to stick to God’s word and apply it to the world around us, not the other way around.

There’s no need to cry “Deception!” any more than to say “appearance of age.” Both depend on the associations we’ve made, and viewed in isolation are quite false.
Consider this third “possible explanation”: God created the various DNA patterns not to deceive us into thinking we’re related — Darwin assumed that similarity indicates relatedness — but to make his creation consistent. Compare, for example, what goes into creating a WordPress theme or any other webpage design. You’ll have elements that resemble each other, not because one eventually morphed into another, but because such resemblances produce a more consistent and aesthetically pleasing whole.
